Tomcat Application Server , Application Checker
Ok so i was tired of certain applications within tomcat5.5 not always starting up successfully on server boot.Im almost certain it's simply because of certain prerequisites not being started up yet, however it seemed to happen hap-hazardly.What i did eventually do was write a very poor , very basic application checker/starter for tomcat5.5.The script basicly only checks for openreports & pentaho which is what matters for me in my case. And yes i do re...

From Resolved To Unresolved!
Great it seems Cell-C Decided Once again to do what ever they want! Incomming Connections are blocked once more this morning!Tried to give them a call but i get the usual "did you switch it off and back on" type responses! On the ddclient side, what resolved my issue was a reboot of the Box! 0_o o_0 <------- Reminds me of a windows solution!...

Starting Over In JHB
Ok so i haven't had much time to keep this updated with the move and all....My cell-c dongle has mysteriously started allowing incomming connections! I didn't sign up for any form of "unrestricted" APN or anything.(And apparently Cell-C doesn't even OFFER any APN that's unrestricted!!!!)Well im just happy and immediately decided to bring one of my servers back online. So first step is to get trusty ddclient working and updating to a dynamic ser...

From Cacti To Zabbix
Well it's time i explore other monitoring platforms as cacti seems rather limiting at allot of monitoring i would like to do and the DUDE from mikrotik just feel like such a toy as apposed to a professional monitoring platform!Well it's onto Zabbix and i have started testing it with great success thus far! I haven't found anything it doesn't provide me with, including being able to specify SLA's that you need to uphold rite within the monitoring system! Finally a appli...

Cell C Woosh VS Telkom DO 3G
Ok it's official Cell-C 21M package is rubbish! I have found it overall MUCH slower than the 7.2M Telkom do 3G package!!! In fact my fiancee refuses to share my cell-c connection saying it's too slow for her! I have also found a few sites that simply don't open and NONE of the local news servers operate through the Dongle! All i say is that there is a reason why it's cheap! ..........

Cell-C 21M Not So Wooooooosh
Ok so I’ve been on Telkom do 3g 1G package for a while now and from being used to download up to 1Tb a month it was a real adjustment. In fact i couldn’t even make it work just downloading mails and light browsing! So I decided because i might be moving any time I didn't want to spend the money installing adsl and got the Cell-C 21M HSDPA+ 5G package. Firstly it was such a mission getting Cell-C by Greenacres to actually help me sign up, they had a different excuse everyday!...

Freeradius Mysql Accounting Tips
Ive been wanting to for a while now update my tricks i used from back when i was running my own ISP.I used to provide a variety of packages including capped ones. The way it used to work is that my Mikrotik Network Access Server would use a radius server which was a FreeBSD box which in turn used to us a mysql backend for the data. However i used to have so many issues with the capping because , well it simply wouldnt work correctly and what was happening was at the +- 4Gb m...

TOP TEN DOWNLOADS
Lol, well i just felt like sharing something i stumbled accross! When i was still operating my ISP i wrote a really crude script to display the top ten downloads off my ftp server and decided i will share it today! I Still want to share as well how i did reverse billing with proftp, meaning although my clients weir caped at say 3G traffic, the NAS server would log ALL traffic via radius into mysql, however with proftp there is an option to do accounting to via radius as well, an i simpl...

For the background: I have a Intel DP35DP Motherboard with a 120Gb IDE Drive as boot 6x Seagate 1.5TB Drives in ZFS Raidz setup (Using all 6 SATA connectors the motherboard provides) 3x Seagate 2TB Drives in ZFS Raidz using the cheapest non raid controller i could find in SA (Lian Li IB-01) The nice thing about that controller is that it provides 6x SA...
